More Than A Restaurant
Bean Town Grill is a beloved casual-upscale restaurant in Fairmont, Minnesota. Owned by Steve and Tina Jette, Bean Town is an established community staple that’s been in operation since 2012.
Steve, who has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years, transitioned from managing the local Perkins to managing Interlaken (one of Fairmont’s two golf courses). That’s when he discovered his interest in planning his own menu and working in an environment that wasn’t corporate. At that time, the Jettes didn’t feel like there was a restaurant in town that offered that unique feel with meals made from scratch. And so, Bean Town was born.

The name comes from the first English settlers of Martin County, and that connection with the history of Fairmont has become the common theme throughout the restaurant. Old black and white photos of community landmarks and life in Fairmont a century ago line the walls. Fairmont itself is nestled in the southern Minnesota agricultural landscape, right along the I-90 corridor. Being a city of five lakes, life on the water has been a part of Fairmont’s history from the beginning. That lake life is reflected in menu items like walleye, the ever popular cedar plank salmon, and the shore lunch (served, of course, with a side of beans). A seasonal menu incorporates a variety of fresh ingredients, while the berm around that patio provides a variety of herbs, as well as rhubarb and strawberries on location.
In addition to the higher-end menu, Bean Town also provides an upscale dining atmosphere for those in the area. Whether it be the go-to place for a lunch meeting, a cocktail after work, a great way to celebrate a birthday or the perfect anniversary night out. The outdoor patio, with the newly added pergola and flower covered berm make a memorable first date...or second, or tenth. Couples have met their future spouse here, locals celebrate life milestones here. Bean Town isn’t just a restaurant. In its ten years, it’s become embedded in the lives of many in the area.
Despite the popularity of the restaurant, the Jettes are now ready to retire from the restaurant business. “I love the business, but it’s time to let someone else do what I’ve done”, said Steve. “I still think Fairmont needs a restaurant like this. We’re a big enough town that we can support a restaurant like this. Our hope is someone gets it and keeps it somewhat the same.”
The Fairmont community is echoing this sentiment. Locals are hoping Bean Town will remain part of the community for many years to come.
